Faculty of Communication and Business Studies Marks Silver Jubilee with Grand Celebration of Vision, Leadership, and Legacy

The Faculty of Communication and Business Studies (FCBS), Trincomalee Campus of Eastern University, Sri Lanka, proudly commemorated its Silver Jubilee on 15th June 2026, marking twenty-five years of academic excellence, dedicated service, and meaningful contributions to higher education and society. The milestone celebration was held under the theme “Vision, Leadership, Legacy”, bringing together current and former staff members, alumni, students, and distinguished stakeholders to reflect on the Faculty’s remarkable journey and its aspirations for the future.

The Silver Jubilee Ceremony commenced at 10.00 a.m. at the FCBS Auditorium and was graced by several eminent personalities. The Chief Guest of the occasion was Prof. P. Peratheepan, Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Sri Lanka. The Guest of Honour was Senior Prof. M. A. D. S. J. S. Niriella of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo. The event was further enriched by the presence of Senior Prof. F. C. Ragel, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Eastern University, Sri Lanka, and Prof. K. T. Sundaresan, Rector of the Trincomalee Campus, who attended as Special Guests.

The celebration witnessed the participation of Deans of Faculties, Heads of Departments, the Senior Assistant Librarian, former Rectors of the Trincomalee Campus, former Deans and Heads of the Faculty of Communication and Business Studies, as well as academic, academic-support, administrative, non-academic, and outsourced staff members. Students and alumni of the Trincomalee Campus also joined the occasion, reflecting the enduring bonds and collective commitment that have contributed to the Faculty’s growth and success over the past twenty-five years.

A significant highlight of the programme was the Felicitation Ceremony held in honour of former Deans of the faculty and Heads of Departments of FCBS. Their visionary leadership, unwavering dedication, and invaluable contributions to the establishment, development, and advancement of the Faculty were formally recognized and celebrated. Their efforts have played a pivotal role in shaping FCBS into a respected centre of learning and professional excellence.

Another landmark achievement of the Silver Jubilee celebration was the launch of the inaugural issue of the Harbour Journal of Researches. This milestone underscores the Faculty’s commitment to fostering research, innovation, and scholarly engagement. The journal is expected to serve as an important platform for academic discourse, knowledge dissemination, and interdisciplinary research.

The event also featured an Awards Ceremony recognizing outstanding academic achievements of students. This was followed by a Panel Discussion on Career Progression, conducted by distinguished alumni of the Faculty. Through the sharing of their professional experiences, achievements, and insights, the panellists provided valuable guidance and inspiration to current students as they prepare to embark on their own career journeys.

The Silver Jubilee celebrations further showcased the creativity and talents of the FCBS community through the screening of an award-winning short film, as well as photography and drawing exhibitions. Adding a unique cultural dimension to the event, students of the 2021/2022 Batch of the Department of Business and Management Studies (DBMS) organized a food stall featuring a variety of traditional foods that reflected the rich cultural heritage and diversity of the region. The food stall created a vibrant and engaging atmosphere, providing guests and participants with an opportunity to enjoy traditional refreshments while viewing the exhibitions and interacting with students.

The celebrations concluded with “FCBS Got Talent,” a cultural programme featuring performances by students, staff members, and alumni. The programme provided an enjoyable platform for showcasing the artistic and cultural talents within the FCBS community, fostering a spirit of unity, creativity, and celebration.

In anticipation of the Silver Jubilee, students of FCBS actively participated in a Shramadhana Campaign and a Tree Plantation Programme, reflecting the Faculty’s commitment to environmental sustainability, community engagement, and social responsibility. These initiatives demonstrated the values that continue to guide the Faculty’s mission beyond academic excellence.

The Silver Jubilee celebration was a memorable and inspiring occasion that united generations of the FCBS family in honouring a rich legacy of achievement, service, and leadership. As the Faculty reflects on twenty-five years of remarkable accomplishments, it also looks ahead with renewed determination to strengthen academic excellence, foster innovation, nurture future leaders, and continue making meaningful contributions to society.
